Kia Ora!
I was discussing life, how we see ourselves and how others see us, with friends. Someone posed a challenge – ask for three words that either describe you, or the impact that you have had on their life.
So I did.
A good, hard look in the mirror, especially first thing in the morning, can be difficult. Feedback from others is the much the same. Knowing I could be in for some hard truths, I asked people I’ve known and worked with for years, I asked people I’d only just met (first impressions are important), I asked friends.
What, you may be wondering, does any of this have to do with analytics, or being a successful analyst. Well, the answer is nothing…
…and everything.
It doesn’t matter how brilliant your insights are, how phenomenal your models are or how valuable your observations and acumen is; if you don’t effectively communicate that and drive change, it is meaningless.
As analysts, we need to first and foremost understand ourselves, our strengths and opportunities for growth. With that understanding and a deep empathy for the people we’re working with, we can drive the change we know needs to happen.
So, here’s a challenge. When you look deeply in the mirror what do you see? When people look at you, what do they see?
